THE PROBLEM:

THE ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE PANDEMIC

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a one-health problem not only impacting the human microbiome and related diseases but also the surroundings with which we interact. Pathogenic bacteria resistant to antimicrobials (in health, the environment, and our food) are a growing concern. Bacteria become resistant when they come into contact with antibiotics. Once they mutate to survive, they transmit this resistance.

AMR kills more than 4 million people annually and will constitute the leading cause of death with over 40 million deaths by 2050 Millions.

Currently, solutions rely on antibiotics or disinfectants. However, antimicrobial resistant bacteria reproduce faster than new antibiotics can be developed.

DISADVANTAGES OF DISINFECTANTS:

- They kill harmful bacteria but also eliminate beneficial ones.

- They cause environmental damage.

NEW SOLUTIONS ARE NEEDED

WHY DO WE WORK
WITH BACTERIOPHAGES?

Bacteriophages, or phages, are viruses that specifically target and kill bacteria.

They are naturally occurring and are highly selective and specific, meaning they only infect and destroy the harmful bacteria, leaving beneficial microbes unharmed.

Recurso 9.png

They are safe for humans and other animals.

Recurso 8.png

Phages are incredibly specific, attacking only the bacteria they are designed to target, making them a powerful tool against resistant bacteria.

They are natural
and environmentally
friendly.

OUR MISSION

To create phage-based solutions that are effective against resistant bacteria, accessible, and environmentally friendly, while preserving the natural microbiome.
